TECHNICAL SUPPORT MISSION FOR DISBURSEMENT LINKED INDICATORS (DLI) & COMMERCIAL FINANCING OF WATER SERVICE PROVIDERS
The Kenya Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (K-WASH) Programme is undertaking a joint field mission and engagement exercise with commercial banks and sector stakeholders in Tharaka Nithi County.
This mission includes visits to seven (7) Water and Sanitation Service Providers (WSPs), technical sessions to discuss Performance Improvement Action Plans (PIAPs) and bankable proposals, and will conclude with a two-day Lenders Engagement Workshop.
The workshop will focus on validating the Lenders Toolkit, conducting a market sounding exercise with commercial banks and private sector players, and introducing the World Bank WaterCred Tool to enhance investment readiness.
The K-WASH Programme, which is co-financed by the Government of Kenya and the World Bank, has the objective of increasing sustainable access to improved water and sanitation services, eliminating open defecation, and enhancing the financial performance of water service providers in selected counties, including those hosting refugees.
Result Area (RA) 3 of the programme seeks to enhance the financial and operational performance of county-owned water and sanitation service providers (WSPs) in the 19 participating counties.
Among the priority interventions under RA3 is the development and implementation of Performance Improvement Action Plans (PIAPs), which are designed to improve efficiency, governance, service delivery, and financial sustainability of the targeted 33 WSPs. The delivery of RA3 is supported by the Water Sector Trust Fund and WASREB, with overall coordination by the State Department of Water and Sanitation through the K-WASH Programme Management Unit (PMU).
